Viwoods has officially confirmed to me that they are about to announce new e-ink devices. I was told directly by their support team that they will be launching new products in the middle of November. For now, however, they are “unable to disclose further details at this moment…”
I am really looking forward to seeing these new devices, and there is a lot of speculation about what kind of model we might see. The biggest possibility is the release of the AiPaper 2, following the great success of the first AiPaper. I’ve been reading a lot of community commentary, and here is what people are hoping for.
On the hardware front, the most common requests are a faster processor and more memory. A more powerful CPU and increased RAM are often requested to improve overall performance.
There’s also a strong interest in a new model adopting the latest E-Ink screen technology, potentially offering better contrast or clarity than current models. But since the AIpaper uses CARTA 1300 I am not sure if there is any latest technology available. Perhaps they will break into Color e-ink market.
For many, the hardware is fine, but they are looking for a significant software upgrade. Topping that list is Split-screen Functionality, as people want the ability to use and view two applications at the same time, side by side. Others are eagerly longing for better landscape mode support.
The new device may also come with new stylus options. Viwoods has recently released new styli—the W2 Stylus Pro and the C1 Ceramic Stylus—which is great. This suggests the company is focusing more on improving the overall writing experience. Finally, some users have asked for a stroke or vector eraser mode for faster and more accurate erasing within the note-taking app.
