The new BOOX Note Air5 C details are coming out of the official European Product Registry for Energy Labelling (EPREL) this week, and the results are interesting. BOOX officially registered the ePaper notebook according to European regulations, and while they achieve solid scores in some areas, a support promise immediately captures attention
BOOX gives the market assurance for the Note Air5 C: a minimum guaranteed 5 years of software updates and a staggering 7 years of security updates. This far surpasses the commitment they gave to earlier devices, which often included only one year of software support.
However, some users remain skeptical about BOOXs support promise, they question if the company can truly deliver for the full seven years. The community knows the history is complex, with one user pointing out that even a relatively new model, the Note Max, faces long waits—over three months—for major firmware releases. Furthermore, some question how the company will effectively back-port security patches from newer Android versions to potentially outdated ones over seven years, which they describe as a “very complicated and work intensive” task.
